Commitment is such a powerful word. It goes hand in hand with our first core value of culture. If you buy into your team's culture, then you are already committed. BUT commitment takes on many forms. You can be committed to your team but maybe not your coach. Or committed to your coach but not your teammates. Or maybe you are committed to always showing up to practice/games, but aren't committed to doing the little things. To pushing yourself, or even committed to keeping your teammates accountable.
Being truly committed means that you don't just show up. You show up and your work hard. You don't cheat when it comes to conditioning. You hustle between drills. You challenge yourself to get better rather than coasting through. You do even the most menial tasks with excellence.
It also means you are committed to being the best teammate you can be. You are committed to building up and encouraging those around you.
Most importantly of all, be committed to the process...it's not always going to be easy. It's not always going to be win, win, win. You will have bumps, challenges, losses. In those times you have to hold strong to your commitment. Don't lose sight even during the hardest times. If you grind it out, and push through those times...you always come out stronger and more refined after. Not just as a player, but as a team. As a unit. Commit to one another. Buy into the culture. And get ready for your team to accomplish amazing things!!
Individual commitment to a group effort - that is what makes a team work. - Vincent Lombardi
